MUMBAI: As part of its global expansion plans to woo emerging football markets, the UEFA announced Thursday a series of three exclusive fan events. For the first time, one of them will be held in India in the city of Mumbai on 8 March.
As an icing on the cake, Portuguese legend Luis Figo will be attending the event as its brand ambassador. Fans will be challenged to a ‘Best of the Best’ quiz to test their football knowledge against Figo. The lucky winner will get an exclusive photo of themselves with the ex-footballer and the iconic UEFA Champions League trophy.
The other two events will be held in Shanghai, China on 11 April and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 1 May.
“It’s a great honour to be able to take the symbol of the UEFA Champions League to new markets around the world,” Figo said.
“It’s great to share the excitement of this fantastic tournament with fans in India, China and Brazil – countries which already have a great passion for the game.”
UEFA and its partners will run a series of promotional campaigns delivered through digital and social media channels. The campaigns will be targeted at local audiences in each of the relevant cities.
Fans in Mumbai who engage with the promotional content, will be directed to a dedicated event page at UEFA.com. The lucky winners will be notified by email and will need to redeem their tickets within a specified timeframe to gain access to the prestigious event.
Attendees will have the opportunity to see the world-famous UEFA Champions League trophy first hand, along with iconic memorabilia from previous tournaments. Each event will be hosted by a local master of ceremonies and will include an exclusive DJ set among a series of engaging activations from official Champions League partners.
