WinZO unveils global short drama championship

NEW DELHI: Homegrown online gaming platform WinZO has announced the launch of the WinZO Short Drama Championship, which lays claim to being the world’s first global competition dedicated to microdrama creators.

The initiative aims to provide storytellers with an international platform and global audience while shaping the future of mobile-first entertainment.

The development follows the company’s decision to suspend real money gaming (RMG) operations in India in the wake of the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025.

On WinZO’s platform, traditional games like Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, Carrom, and Chess HAD gained traction worldwide.

Coming back to the WinZO Short Drama Championship, competition winners will secure production deals and a 100% sponsorship to commission projects, alongside long-term partnerships to produce original content for WinZO TV, the company’s newly launched microdrama platform.

In addition to financial backing, creators will gain access to WinZO’s user base, which, the platform asserts, is 250 million strong, as well as opportunities for visibility at marquee events. Submissions will be judged on originality and storytelling strength, with final winners determined through audience engagement metrics.

“At WinZO, we’ve always believed that India’s cultural capital is its greatest export. We built WinZO as a platform to democratise opportunities for creators, first in gaming, and now in storytelling. India has the talent, artistry, and scale to lead the global microdrama revolution. Our job is to empower them with the stage, the tools, and the audience,” said WinZO co-founder Paavan Nanda.

Since its inception in 2018, WinZO has been at the forefront of interactive entertainment, enabling developers and creators to monetize at scale and reach millions globally. With users across India, Brazil, and the US engaging in 100+ games, WinZO has become a launchpad for digital creators and a face of India’s cultural exports.

The launch of WinZO TV on 24th August marks the company’s expansion from games to storytelling, with the short drama championship serving as its first major step towards building the world’s largest library of microdrama content.
