Uttarakhand Premier League returns bigger for season 2

UTTARAKHAND PREMIER LEAGUE (UPL) is set to return for its second edition, the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) has announced. This year’s edition will be bigger than before, featuring seven men’s and four women’s teams — up from five men’s and three women’s sides in the inaugural season.

A total of 30 matches will be staged at Dehradun’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, with SSPARK Sports and Entertainment continuing as the league organisers.

The women’s competition opens the season on 23 September, with four teams contesting six round-robin matches across four days. The final will be played on 26 September. The men’s tournament begins on 27 September, with 21 league matches spread over a week before culminating in the Eliminator and Final on 4 and 5 October.

To ensure balance and competitiveness, the UPL Player Draft will take place on 10 September in Dehradun. Across two days, all seven men’s teams and four women’s teams will complete their squads, beginning with each franchise selecting a marquee player before filling out their line-ups.

CAU secretary Mahim Verma said, “Season 1 of the Uttarakhand Premier League showed us the incredible depth of cricketing talent in our state, and with Season 2 we aim to provide an even bigger platform. This league gives young players the chance to rub shoulders with those who have competed at the highest levels — in the IPL and the WPL. We are confident UPL will continue to accelerate the development of Uttarakhand’s cricketers while offering fans a truly world-class cricketing and cultural experience.”

SSPARK Sports and Entertainment founder Rajeev Khanna added, “UPL is more than a tournament, it’s a celebration of Uttarakhand’s sporting spirit. By expanding the number of teams, we are giving more players a chance to test themselves in a professional environment that mirrors the IPL and WPL atmosphere. For fans, it’s an opportunity to enjoy top-quality cricket and entertainment, all in one place.”
