Women’s T20 Challenge: Pay extra, BCCI tells sponsors

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has written to all the Indian Premier League (IPL) sponsors that the four-match Women’s T20 Challenge is different from the IPL, and that they will have to pay extra to be associated with it, reports the Mumbai Mirror.

According to the Mirror, these sponsors have the option of not staying with the four women’s games – on November 4, 5, 7 and 9 – but there is a bit of ambiguity if the same option has been extended to Star and Hotstar, the television and digital broadcasters of the tournament.

“We have been given to understand that it is different from IPL and any association with the women’s event will cost extra,” an executive representing an IPL central sponsor was quoted by the publication as having said.

Late Saturday night, Ceat said it will be associating with the women’s event too.
