NEW DELHI: The World Women’s Boxing Championships is set to take place in the capital city from 15-25 November this year with India being the host nation of the marquee event for the first time in 12 years, Press Trust of India reports.
An official of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) said that all teams need to assemble in New Delhi on 13 November and the deadline for registrations is 5 October.
“The AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will be held in New Delhi in November 13-25,” an official of the International Boxing Association (AIBA).
“The deadline for registration in the AIBA Database to the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships is October 5.
“All boxers must be accompanied by at least one AIBA certified coach at ringside during the bouts.” the official was quoted as saying to PTI.
India had topped the medals tally at the world team event with four gold, three silver and one bronze medal respectively.
Amongst individuals, the Olympic silver medallist Mary Kom is said to be the favourite in becoming a 6-time world champion on 24 November should she make the final again. She had previously won in the 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010 editions of the event.
