NEW YORK: Swedish football superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be the new face of Visa, the financial service company and its marketing campaign ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The 36-year-old retired from international soccer in 2016, but talks of his return have risen dramatically. He said on US chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live: “I’m going to the World Cup, yes.
“If I say more, people will hang me so I have to be careful what I say now.”
On his work with Visa, Ibrahimović said: “I am incredibly proud to work with Visa, the global leader in payments.
“I always try to be the best in football, so a partnership with Visa represents what I continue to strive to be—the best.”
“We have always been aware of Zlatan’s impressive on-field accomplishments, global appeal and colourful personality,” added Lynne Biggar, chief marketing and communications officer at Visa Inc. “At Visa, we are thrilled to partner with Zlatan to bring our FIFA World Cup campaign and product innovation to life and connect with fans around the globe, showing once again Visa is ‘Everywhere You Want To Be’.”
Ibrahimovic has scored three goals in his first three Major League Soccer (MLS) games with LA Galaxy, a franchise which he joined after a stint with EPL giants Manchester United.
The 2018 Fifa World Cup is set to take place from 14th June to 15th July.
