6 firms pick up BCCI’s kit sponsor ITT papers; no bids tabled

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which had invited bids for the Team Kit Sponsor and Official Merchandising Partner Rights through a tender process early last month, has failed to elicit any reponse, though the submission deadline has already passed.

German sportswear giants PUMA and adidas, Dream11’s parent company Sports Technologies Ltd, The Walt Disney Company, ITW Consulting (for MyDream11), and Universal Sports Biz – parent company of apparel brand Wrogn, which Virat Kohli fronts and has a stake in, are reportedly the entities that picked up the tender documants.

With no bids forthcoming, the BCCI will perforce have to issue fresh dates for the bid as well as revise the bidding base price because the board’s kit sponsor deal with incumbent Nike.

Under the Invitation to Tender (ITT), the winning bidder will be granted the right to be the Kit Sponsor and/or the Official Merchandising Partner and various other associated rights (as defined in the ITT).

The BCCI in it’s new bid has kept a base price of Rs 6.1 million per match compared to the Rs 8.8 million that Nike was paying during the last cycle.

All-in-all, Nike coughed up Rs 3.7 billion to renew the kit sponsorship with the Indian team in 2016 that will run its course on September 30.
