GUWAHATI: Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced Friday that Hima Das will be offered the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Sarma made the announcement during the ongoing budget session in the Assam state assembly.
Posting the news on his official Twitter handle, Sarma tweeted: “To encourage sports persons who succeed in winning in Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, I propose to bring in a policy to designate such high achievers, as Grade-I officers of the state government.

“Our government is pleased to announce Ms Hima Das, our own ‘Dhing Express’, as the first recipient of this policy. She will be offered the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Das, whose pet event is the 400m, has recently shifted to the 200m category ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. While 400m has been her strength, Das will have to do extremely well for her to qualify for the 200m at the Tokyo Olympics.
