NEW DELHI:The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has indicated that it cannot implement many of the recommendations suggested by the FIFA-AFC delegation because they are impractical in the current scenario to create a unified national league consisting of teams from the I-League and the Indian Super League (ISL).
The AIFF general secretary, Kushal Das, told media that the federation is slowly trying to implement the suggestions made in a report by Nic Coward and Alex Philips, which was submitted in early 2018. Das was reacting to queries on FIFA writing to AIFF enquiring about the progress in creating one league, which has been in the works for nearly 2 to 3 years now.
Providing financial guarantees from owners of clubs, independent audit of these owners, clubs having their own stadiums, creation of a League Transition Commission consisting of independent external members, and reviewing the agreement between AIFF and its commercial partner, Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), were recommendations which can’t be implemented easily as they are impractical, Das said.
