LONDON: “The times they are a changin” (hat tip to Bob Dylan). Test cricket, the “purest” form of the game, is getting a makeover… of sorts. The upcoming Ashes will witness players sporting their names and numbers on the back of jerseys for the first time in a Test match.
Thus far, only ODI and T20 jerseys had personalised player jerseys but the game’s longest format is about to join its younger iterations.
The official handle of England Cricket uploaded an image on Twitter with Joe Root donning the jersey and the post reading: “Names and numbers on the back of Test shirts!”
Earlier this year, there were reports that Ashes series between England and Australia would bring in modernisation of cricketing kits.
England will take on Ireland in a one-off four-day Test from July 24 and then the team will face Australia in the Ashes, beginning August 1.
