LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has signed a fresh contract with AJ Sports as kit sponsor of the Pakistan team for the upcoming ICC World Cup being staged in England and Wales from May 30 to July 14.
The PCB did not mention in the press release issued on the deal signing if it would earn any money from the deal with AJ Sports.
The question came up after Pakistan’s respected Dawn newspaper reported that the PCB was also in contract with the same company to provide kits in mid-2000. But the contract was cancelled after Dawn reported that the company, instead of giving sufficient amount to the PCB for using its tagged kit, was in fact charging the Pakistan board.
On this disclosure, then PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan had abrogated the contract and a deal was signed with Nike, which at that time was also the kit sponsor of the BCCI (and still is).
