MUMBAI: The announcement of the fixtures for upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been delayed further and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the schedule in a week’s time, a report in The Mumbai Mirror suggests.
Earlier, a report had suggested that the schedule of the T20 league might be announced on February 4 but that didn’t happen. “We’re working closely with the Election Commission and all the authorities concerned and hopefully it will be out in a week,” a BCCI official told the daily.
It bears noting that the BCCI has already confirmed that IPL will be played in India from March 23. Last month the Indian cricket board had announced that the world cricket’s biggest annnual jamboree will remain in India.
In 2009, the T20 league was played in South Africa while in 2014, a part of the league was played in UAE due to general lections. This year, the same could have been the case but BCCI seems to have made adjustments.
This year’s IPL will end early due to World Cup 2019, which will kick off on May 30.
