Ex-Myntra chief in reckoning for Hotstar CEO post: Report

MUMBAI: Two months after reports first surfaced that Ananth Narayanan had put in his papers, parent company Flipkart confirmed that the Myntra and Jabong chief executive officer was moving on “to pursue external opportunities”.

Ananth Narayanan

That opportunity could well be Star India-owned video on demand (VoD) platform Hotstar, if a report in Economic Times proves true. Hotstar has been without a CEO since Ajit Mohan resigned from the country’s most popular OTT video streaming platform in September to head social media giant Facebook’s Indian unit as managing director (MD). Mohan was at the helm of Hotstar since inception.

According to ET, while Narayanan is in discussions with Star to take up the role of Hotstar CEO, he might also move back to McKinsey, where he had an earlier stint as a director in the consultancy firm’s Chennai office, to join its US practice.

Narayanan played an important role in making Myntra and Jabong into a formidable player in the fashion e-commerce market, the company stated.
