Asian Games 2026: ICC initiates talks for potential inclusion of cricket

MUMBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has initiated discussions for the possible inclusion of cricket as a discipline at the 20th Asian Games, which will be hosted by Aichi Nagoya, Japan, in 2026.

William Glenwright, ICC’s head of Global Development, posted on his official twitter handle: “An interesting few days with @CricketJapan and jslivesey in Nagoya meeting with Aichi Prefecture to discuss cricket’s inclusion in the 2026 Asia Games and JCA’s cricket towns Program. Next stop: Sano.”

It bears noting that the ICC’s position on cricket’s inclusion in mega multi-sport events like the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games has been at odds with the Big Daddy of the game globally – the Board Of Control For Cricket In India – which has thus far been decidedly cool to the proposition.
