Great Khali of WWE fame to work for J&K’s sports development  

JAMMU: Indian wrestler Dalip Singh Rana, better known as Great Khali who shot to fame with his exploits in the WWE announced on Sunday that he will be organizing an international level wrestling competition in the near future as a step to work towards bringing about a sporting culture in the state amongst the youth, Press Trust of India reports.  

Khali wished that the youth participates in sporting activities to stop being involved in drug addiction, sloganeering and stone pelting for example and believes that they need a platform to express themselves and develop passion for sport, something which he says lacks in the state as compared to his native Punjab and Haryana.  

“I will work to provide them the required opportunity so that they can focus on sports and earn a name for themselves, for the state and the nation. I am planning to organise a big international level competition in Jammu in near future and to make it possible, I will try to meet the state governor (Satya Pal Malik),” Khali was quoted as saying to PTI.  

Khali also revealed that in the state, he will opening a branch of Continental Wrestling Entertainment (CWE) Academy, a training school founded by him in Jalandhar and appealed to the youth to enroll themselves there in the meantime.  

“The proper platform was never provided to the youth, who got inclined towards drugs and wrong path. My endeavour will be to set them on the right path.  

“We have a lot of talent here. If a proper platform is given to them, I am sure they will win lot of fame and medals for the state and the nation as well.” he added.  

Khali was in the city on the invitation of his friend, a police officer, to join the birth anniversary celebrations of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Dogra ruler of the state.
