NEW DELHI: Vinod Rai, head of the two-member Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), has confirmed that the BCCI’s 2018 annual general meeting (AGM) and fresh board elections will be conducted anytime within the next three months.
The development comes close on the heels of the the CoA registering the newly-formed BCCI constitution with the Tamil Nadu Registrar of Societies in Chennai.
Rai also declared that the CoA will quit after the elections.
“We are looking at elections in about 90 days. We have given the date as September 20. There is no cause for any ambiguity,” Rai told Cricbuzz.
“The COA will leave the moment the new body takes over. There is a specific mandate that has been given to the CoA, rest assured we will not overstep it by a day,” he added.
All state associations have been given a deadline of September 20 to adopt the new constitution and conduct their own elections through which they can appoint their representatives for the BCCI elections.
Asked by Telegraph India what would be the next step if some of the state associations remain reluctant to adopt the new constitution, Rai said the latest Supreme Court order of August 9 order has left no such scope for resentment.
“The Supreme Court order is very clear… it is mandatory for the states to accept it. In case some associations do not adopt it, then it is for the court to decide the next course of action,” he said.
“States have been advised to adopt the constitution through their elections and SGMs within the timeline given by the Supreme Court. The order is very clear… the constitution of the states should mirror the constitution of the BCCI,” Rai stressed.
“Whatever practical difficulties are there, the states have to file the compliance report and then the Supreme Court will decide on such things,” he further said.
