NEW DELHI: Sports India (erstwhile Sports Authority of India) has announced that 743 youngsters were selected for a scholarship programme under the Khelo India Talent Identification Development scheme.
Students will be funded for their training, development, boarding, lodging and other tournament expenses through the programme besides receiving pocket expense allowance of Rs 120,000 per year on a quarterly basis.
A talent identification committee comprising of Arjuna and Dronacharya Awardees shortlisted and proposed their selections to a high powered committee, which gave approval for the same. The committee also accredited all those sporting academies, which include 21 non-SAI ones, that will come under the initiative.
Academies and athletes have also been made accountable as their performances will be reviewed on a periodical basis through “robust” performance monitoring and gap analysis systems.
SAI’s move comes after the success of the Khelo India Games earlier this year, which was broadcast by Star India.
