TOKYO: The organising committee of the Tokyo 2020 Games made the ticketing prices for the marquee event public on Friday for all its events, barring surfing. Tickets will be made available outside of Japan through the National Olympic committee of the country or authorized ticket resellers mentioned on the Tokyo 2020 ticketing website, https://id.tokyo2020.jp/.
Being the exclusive payment technology partner of the Olympic Games since the last 32 years, Visa will continue in the same capacity as it will be the only payment brand accepted on the Tokyo 2020 ticket website or ticket box offices.
50% of all tickets have been priced at JPY 8,000 ($72) or less, making the event affordable for fans across the world. The opening and closing ceremonies of the event have tickets priced between JPY 12,000 ($108) to 300,000 ($2692).
Most sporting events will cost fans anywhere between JPY 2500 ($23) to 130,000 ($1167). The tournament wishes to aim the youth and as a result, it will be introducing a school programme with over 1 million students across Japan, providing them a concessionary price of JPY 2200 ($20). Any families with children, senior citizens or handicapped citizens are also eligible to buy these discounted tickets.
Tokyo 2020 is additionally planning to offer a hospitality programme as well as opportunities for spectators to watch large sections of the marathon, road cycling, triathlon and race walk competitions for free along the city streets.
