ICC discusses long-term strategy for developing women’s cricket

KOLKATA: Promotion of women’s cricket and developing a long-term strategy for its further growth was discussed on the first day of the ICC women’s committee meeting, here, at a city hotel.

The women’s game has gained in popularity since last year’s World Cup, where England triumphed, beating India in an intriguing final at Lord’s on July 23.

“Women’s cricket took a major turn since last year’s World Cup. Our main goal is to try and improve and take ideas from other great countries like India, which is among the top teams in women’s cricket alongside Australia, England and New Zealand,” Sri Lanka manager and former batsman Asanka Gurusinha, who was a part of the meeting on Sunday, told The Telegraph.

“I feel in the next two-three years, women’s cricket will be taking a big leap,” he added.
