Vijender’s next pro fight under his own banner

NEW DELHI: Boxing star Vijender Singh has confirmed that his next fight will be under his own banner – Vijender Singh Promotions.

The face of Indian pro boxing announced that the defence of his WBO Oriental and Asia Pacific Super middleweight titles will be against Ghana’s Ernest Amuzu in Jaipur on December 23.

It is worth noting that IOS, which has managed Vijendar throughout his pro boxing career till date, had two weeks ago stated it was negotiating with British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding’s handlers for a fight in the United Kingdom on March 30.

“I am really excited on having my 10th fight in India in the Pink City of Jaipur. I am training hard in the ring for the last two months and still have three weeks to go for my next fight, so looking forward to winning the third title fight in a row,” PTI quotes the Olympic Bronze medallist as having said.

Speaking about his new promotional company, Vijender said, “The company will encourage new talents and provide them a chance to be a part of a big show.”

Explaining his choice of Jaipur as a venue for the first boxing fight under his own banner, Vijender told PTI: “I do not want to fight in the metros (his pro fights in India have been in Mumbai and the capital), I want to take the sport to small towns, so middle-class families can to also see the matches.”

“I am sure it will be an exciting fight night for the people of Jaipur and I am confident that sports fans will come out in large number to support me when I compete for my third title fight,” he added.

For the record, in Amuzu, Vijendar faces a boxer who has won 23 fights, 21 of them via knockouts, and lost two in his pro career.
