LONDON: Indian boxer Vijender Singh’s management firm IOS is negotiating with British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding’s handlers for a fight in United Kingdom on March 30.
IOS has stated that Fielding has been ordered to defend his newly-acquired super-middleweight title against Vijender.
“In the latest Commonwealth Boxing Council bulletin, British and Commonwealth Super middleweight Champion Rocky Fielding has been ordered to defend his newly-acquired super-middleweight title against Indian superstar Vijender Singh,” a release issued by IOS states.
“This mega fight between two champion boxers is scheduled for 30th March 2018 in UK. Fielding won the belt on 30th September with a crushing victory over David Brophy in Liverpool and has been put straight in at the deep-end opposite the ex-amateur star,” the release adds.
The 2008 Beijing Olympic medallist has a 9-0 record on the pro circuit and last won against China’s Zulpikar Maimaitiali for the unified WBO Asia Pacific and Oriental Super Middleweight title.
Vijender could now meet Fielding provided both sides are on board and agree terms in the coming months.
Fielding, however, is far more experienced than Vijender, having won 25 times, 14 via knockouts, out of total 26 professional fights.
Fielding is also former WBA Inter-Continental super middleweight champion as well as a former WBA Commonwealth and English Super middleweight champion.
