MUMBAI: After former Cricket South Africa CEO Haroon Lorgat’s efforts to launch a franchise based T20 league in the Rainbow Nation came a cropper, and ultimately forced his resignation, CSA is now reportedly looking to take Indian expertise on board to ensure that there are no snafus next time round.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) president Chris Nenzani met Amitabh Choudhary, acting secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, and CEO Rahul Johri on Monday and discussed on a range of bilateral issues, Calcutta Telegraph reports.
At the meeting, the CSA also expressed its willingness to learn from India’s expertise in running the Indian Premier League. If all goes according to script, CSA’s T20 Global League, which already has eight teams registered, is scheduled to be held in South Africa from November 2018.
At the meeting, Nenzani also conveyed to Choudhary and Johri that with the ICC Test Championship scheduled to begin soon after the 2019 World Cup, South Africa’s standing in international cricket needs to be recognised by the BCCI when it sets down its conditions on the ICC’s Future Tours Programme.
The Test Championship, which is set to begin in July 2019, will see nine of the 12 Test nations (excluding newcomers Ireland and Afghanistan, as well as Zimbabwe) play six series over two years — three home and three away.
Each bilateral Test series will feature at least two Tests and a maximum of five, with the Championship to culminate in a World Test League Championship Final.
In this regard, it needs recalling that Mumbai Mirror recently reported that the BCCI has conveyed to ICC general manager (Cricket) Geoff Allardice that four months of the international schedule – the October-November and February-March windows – should be reserved for India’s home season.
Allardice was further told that the BCCI will schedule full series against Australia, South Africa and England, while for other countries two Tests and three ODIs will be the norm.
