Barbie names Smriti Mandhana in 1st Dream Team

MATTEL has announced that Barbie is marking International Women’s Day with the launch of its first-ever Barbie Dream Team, an initiative recognising women who have made a significant impact in their respective fields through dolls created in their likeness. Representing India in the global line-up is Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana.

Mandhana becomes the first cricketer to be included in the Barbie Dream Team. The doll honours her contributions to women’s cricket and her influence both on and off the field. Created to celebrate her journey, the doll will remain a commemorative piece and will not be available for retail.

Her recognition also reflects the growing momentum behind women’s cricket and aims to encourage more young girls to view sport as a viable career path.

Other members of the Barbie Dream Team include Serena Williams, Kellie Gerardi, Regina Sirvent Alvarado, Chloe Kelly, Helene Fischer, Zoja Skubis and Stephanie Gilmore.

Mattel vice president and head of Barbie Nathan Baynard said, “Barbie has always championed the belief that girls can be anything. From astronauts to CEOs, Barbie has broken barriers and redefined what’s possible – igniting imagination and inspiring generations of girls to dream without limits. This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to build on that legacy with the launch of our Barbie Dream Team, celebrating an extraordinary group of global trailblazers who are paving the way for the next generation. By honoring their achievements, we hope to inspire girls everywhere to pursue their passions boldly and realize their limitless potential.”
