$2.25m Hero Indian Open 2024 to tee off Mar 28 at DLF Golf Club

NEW DELHI: The Indian Golf Union on Friday unveiled the schedule for the Hero Indian Open 2024, which will tee off on March 28 running through to March 31. The upcoming 57th edition of the country’s richest golf event offers an enhanced prize purse of $2.25 million and will be hosted at the prestigious DLF Golf & Country Club, Gurgaon.

This edition marks a significant return for the DP World Tour-sanctioned tournament, featuring a stellar cast of 144 professional golfers from around the globe. However, the final list of players has still to be confirmed.

Among the notable participants, star golfer Anirban Lahiri’s return to the Hero Indian Open after a five-year absence is generating significant buzz. Lahiri, along with other prominent golfers such as Shiv Kapur, Nicolas Colsaerts, and Kazumi Kobori, are set to compete in Gurugram, turning the event into a battleground of the finest in golf.

The tournament will also see the the likes of Aman Raj and Manu Gandas, alongside 31 other Indian participants, in the fray.

The inclusion of the Hero Indian Open in the DP World Tour’s 2024 season schedule, particularly as part of the ‘Asian swing,’ underscores its significance in the global golfing community.

In October, the DP World Tour (formerly known as the European Tour) unveiled its 2024 season schedule, reserving a notable spot labelled “Asian swing”.

The Asian Swing will begin with the Singapore Classic from March 21-24, before heading to India, and Korea for the Korea Championship, the ISPS Handa Championship in Japan, and finally China for the return of the Volvo China Open.

The five ‘Global Swings’ are followed by the ‘Back 9’ events, and the season is rounded out by the ‘DP World Tour Play-Offs’.

IGU president Brijinder Singh said, “I take pride in announcing the Hero Indian Open 2024. It is our flagship event and we look forward to the excitement and bonhomie it brings. Let’s make this event a memorable one.”

“The Hero Indian Open stands as a pinnacle in the Indian Golf calendar offering a platform where our ace golfers can showcase their talents and also compete alongside and learn from the very best in the world.”

After a three-year hiatus caused by COVID-19 restrictions, the tournament made a successful comeback in 2023, with German golfer Marcel Siem clinching victory.
