Hyderabad seeks a tweak to tweaked CWC schedule

The Hyderabad Cricket Association has expressed worries about the (shambolic?) ICC Cricket World Cup India 2023 schedule; and has reportedly requested that “some tweaks” be made to it.

According to reports, there are concerns about whether the Hyderabad police can provide security on back-to-back match days.

Hyderabad are the only city to host two matches on successive days; with New Zealand facing Netherlands on 9th October and Pakistan taking on Sri Lanka on 10th October.

It bears noting that the problems are an outcome of tweaks made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India to the original schedules.

Although HCA would like to see further changes made, it is unlikely that the BCCI would consider making more alterations to an already delicately balanced competition.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, who is also in charge of the Hyderabad venue, is reported to have said that more changes are unlikely to happen because it involves multiple stakeholders.

However, former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi did not miss the opportunity to take a dig at the BCCI about these proposed fixture changes.

Sethi posted on X: “@BCCI should have taken my advice re @TheRealPCB playing their WC games in a neutral country 🙂 They are now in a mess with schedule tweaks being proposed every few days!”
