Subcon TV, digital rights net BCCI Rs 44,075cr in IPL e-auction

MUMBAI (June 13): At the end of what has been a really topsy turvy day, the Indian Premier League’s linear television rights have gone to incumbent Disney Star India (or maybe not?), with a winning bid of Rs 57.5 crore per game, while Viacom18 has secured the digital rights for a mind-boggling price of Rs 50 cr per game.

Though there is no official word out yet either from the IPL governing council or the Indian cricket board and neither has the winner’s name been disclosed as yet, multiple reports have good as confirmed the developments.

What this means is that the BCCI has collected Rs 23,575 cr for the linear TV rights and a staggeringly high Rs 20,500 cr from the sale of digital rights for the Indian subcontinent. Collectively the per match value of IPL’s two main pieces has gone for Rs 107.5 cr.

Over the five-year cycle from 2023-2027, the BCCI will earn Rs 44,075 cr ($5.64 billion at current exchange rates) and counting from the sale of media rights for world cricket’s richest annual tournament.
