ACC to float Asia Cup media rights tender next month: Report

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is planning to float a tender for the next cycle of Asia Cup media rights in the next one month, and is looking to complete the process by July, Cricbuzz reports.

Per the cricket platform, the ACC will be offering both a four-year and eight-year deal but the impression from the broadcasters is that eventually the parties will settle for the long term option. There will be four Asia Cups in the tender with two 50-over championships and two Twenty20 competitions.

Cricbuzz further reports that in order to avoid the controversy of the last edition wherein “Big Daddy” BCCI refused to send its team to Pakistan, the designated host, all the events in the cycle will be held at non-India and non-Pakistan venues.

Star Sports is the outgoing host broadcaster of Asia Cup and as per Cricbuzz, the deal was worth about $80 million for the four editions of the Asia Cup it held the rights to.

The ACC is expecting a significant appreciation in value in view of the fact that each edition will have between two and three India-Pakistan contests, the most high profile fixtures in world cricket.
