AIFF pushes Federation Cup revival to 2023-24 season

The long awaited revival of the Federation Cup is NOT going to take place in early 2024 as was widely reported.

The tournament, which served as India’s national cup since the 1970s, was replaced by Super Cup from 2018. The re-branding was not popular with fans or clubs, and AIFF eventually decided to bring back the famous Fed Cup from 2023-24 season as a knockout competition that would run concurrently with ISL and I-League.

However, due to the season being interrupted by the Asian Cup in January, the AIFF were left with too short a window for the domestic competitions to make a smooth transition.

As a result the AIFF has decided to bring back the Federation Cup from the 2023-24 season instead.

The Super Cup, which is the current national cup of India, may see one more edition before being replaced if the AIFF is able to find a window for it towards the end of the season.
