AS Roma to compete in Women’s Serie A

ROME: Champions League semi-finalists AS Roma will be fielding a women’s team for the first time ever in the Serie A from the 2018-19 season.

Taking pride in its famous colours, the club strongly believes that whether a boy or a girl, each deserving and talented individual must get the equal opportunity to aspire to play for the club some day.

The women’s team will be coached by Elisabetta Bavagnoli and will be playing its home games at the Stadio Tre Fontane in the city.

“I’ve been talking with Mia Hamm, who is a member of our board of directors, about launching an official AS Roma women’s team for a couple of years and it’s very satisfying that we can confirm today that we’ll kick off the new season with both a men’s and women’s Roma team,” AS Roma president Jim Pallotta said.

Roma is the second team in the Serie A to have made this decision recently, following rivals AC Milan who announced it last month.
