NEW DELHI: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has taken note of leagues to be held this year in Agra and Haryana which haven’t been officially sanctioned and as a result, written to all its affiliated bodies expressing concern over player participation in them, Press Trust of India reports.
The letter is a clear warning of players losing out on their identification status with the BAI, should they choose to go ahead with participation.
“We came to know that an unauthorised Badminton League is getting organised in the month of March in Agra and June in Sonepat, Haryana,” BAI secretary of events Omar Rashid said in the letter.
“You are advised to inform all registered players of your State not to participate not only in league but also not in any unauthorised tournament/league as per rules and regulations stipulated in the constitution.
“It may please be noted that BAI ID of players will be immediately deactivated who will participate in any unauthorised league/event.
“We are not against anyone hosting any tournament but it is important that it should be recognised by BAI.
“Everywhere nowadays you find such leagues. It is important that they come through the States and affiliated bodies or else we wont allow our registered players to participate in such unauthorised leagues.”
BAI secretary general Ajay Singhania had written a similar letter in November 2018 over the issue.
