MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India held its apex council meeting on Sunday during which the BCCI gave its approval to start the season for the women’s senior team from March and confirmed that the New Zealand men’s team will tour India as part of preparations for the T20 World Cup later this year.
The BCCI has approached Sri Lanka and South Africa to resume international cricket for the national women’s team, the details for which are being chalked out, PTI reports.
“It is likely to be a full-fledged domestic season for women and there will be finally some cricket for our international stars with Sri Lanka and South Africa coming to India,” a board official told the newswire.
Speaking to ANI, a source present at the meeting said that while a final call is yet to be taken on the hosting of Ranji Trophy or the Vijay Hazare trophy, it was announced that New Zealand will tour India with an eye on the World T20.
Asked about the plan to host New Zealand, a source present at the meeting told ANI “The venues and detailing will be done in some time. But the idea is to play maximum T20 games with an eye on the T20 World Cup. It will help the boys prepare.”
