MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed its dismay at the scheduling of the India vs Pakistan ODI match at the upcoming Asia Cup tournament in September in the UAE terming it ‘mindless’, Cricketnext reports.
While the match will be taking place on September 19, the contentious point is that India will be playing against a qualifier team a day prior to that which doesn’t give Virat Kohli and co. the ideal rest time before the marquee clash. On the other hand, Pakistan will get two days to prepare for the match as they have been scheduled to play the qualifier team on September 16.
“The scheduling is mindless,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying to CricketNext.
“There appears to be zero application of mind. How can you accept a scenario where India plays a game today and tomorrow it will face its arch-rival Pakistan who will have a two-day period of rest?
“This is unacceptable and has to be revisited. Maybe for the organisers it is just a money-spinning game, but for us it is important that there be equity in scheduling,” he said.
The Asia Cup is expected to begin on September 15 with the final on September 28 in Dubai.
