BCCI releases Women’s T20 World Cup prize money: Report

MUMBAI: The BCCI has reportedly released the long delayed payments owed to the Indian women’s cricket team, which reached the finals of ICC T20 World Cup in Australia last year.

Each player has received approximately $26,000 as their individual share from the $500,000 prize money for the 2020 T20 World Cup, in which India, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, lost to hosts Australia in the summit clash on March 8 last year.

The ball was set rolling on the payments issue last month after a report in the UK’s Telegraph quoted an official from the Federation of International Cricketers Association (FICA) as saying that the BCCI is yet to disburse the runner-up prize money of the global event, which was held in February-March last year.

“The transactions have been processed and I am expecting that they will receive their share very soon,” a senior board functionary had then told PTI.
