BENGALURU: Reigning Indian Super League champions Bengaluru FC confirmed Thursday that BFC will be playing its home games for the 2019-20 ISL season out of the Sree Kanteerava Stadium.
A statement issued via the club’s Twitter handle reads: “STATEMENT: We can confirm that Bengaluru FC will be playing its home games for the 2019-20 season out of the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. #WeAreBFC #RoomForMore”
BFC’s confirmation follows on from the Department of Youth Empowerment & Sports (DYES), government of Karnataka, last week issuing a letter of consent to BFC to hold its home games at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium.
The Karnataka government’s decision came on the back of an order passed by the High Court while hearing a petition filed by JSW, requesting access to the stadium for close to 30 days of the forthcoming season for which it agreed to pay an amount of Rs 7.8 million as well as other charges.
It is to be noted that the petition on which the decision was made was different from the one filed by athletes and coaches seeking to restrain footballing activities on the grounds that the stadium was exclusively built for track and filed disciplines.
The court had since heard the athletes and coaches and ordered an enquiry to assess the legality of the previous agreement between DYES and JSW. A report of the same is scheduled to be tabled by the state government on October 14.
