BUSINESS FINLAND, the European nation’s agency for trade and investment promotion, has entered into a partnership with Indian gaming firm WinZO and the Interactive Entertainment and Innovation Council (IEIC) to strengthen India–Finland collaboration in the gaming sector.
The alliance seeks to combine Finland’s global gaming expertise with India’s rapidly expanding market to co-create innovative, export-ready gaming content from India, according to a joint statement.
As an initial step, the partners are releasing a detailed case study at the Embassy of Finland in New Delhi, highlighting Finland’s gaming success story to inspire Indian stakeholders, according to Economic Times.
Finland’s gaming industry generates more than USD 3.9 billion annually, with 98 per cent of this coming from exports. Popular titles such as Angry Birds and Clash of Clans have cemented its reputation, with over one billion players worldwide engaging with Finnish-developed games — an achievement for a nation of just 5.6 million people.
The partnership will focus on knowledge and talent exchange, while also exploring the role of gaming in education, cultural collaboration, and social impact. It further aims to establish structured dialogue between governments and industry to enhance innovation and competitiveness.
H.E. Ambassador of Finland in India Kimmo Lähdevirta, said, “Finland consistently ranks among Europe’s top games hubs by turnover, and our gaming industry is world-renowned. In the gaming sector, Finland and India make a good match where India’s scale meets Finnish craft. We are happy to see the growing potential of Finnish Gaming IP to reach Indian consumers through trusted platform partners here in India.”
IEIC Chairman Rohit Kumar Singh said, “Finland’s experience provides invaluable lessons for India, and together, we can create an innovation corridor that empowers startups, developers, and creators in both countries to achieve global impact. Interactive entertainment has become a powerful tool for education, healthcare, and storytelling in today’s world. As our ecosystem innovates, we can leverage our connections and the power of interactive entertainment for the greater good.”
WinZO co-founder Paavan Nanda added, “India has all the ingredients to be a global leader of interactive entertainment – scale, diversity, and creativity. We at WinZO have always believed in India’s growth story, driven by culturally relevant, mobile-first, immersive & vernacular IP creation through content, be it for esports or microdrama. With Finland’s proven export model as inspiration, this collaboration will accelerate India’s journey towards building Indian content that is inclusive to cater to the global audiences.”
