CABI welcomes BCCI backing to strengthen blind cricket

CRICKET ASSOCIATION for the Blind in India (CABI) has expressed its sincere gratitude to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for its firm commitment to advancing blind cricket in the country.

Over the past decade, India’s visually impaired cricketers have built an impressive global legacy, claiming multiple Men’s World Cup titles since 2012 and lifting the inaugural Women’s World Cup. With the BCCI’s formal support now in place, that success is set to be reinforced through structured, long-term backing at the highest level of the sport.

The collaboration is expected to help CABI address funding gaps that have largely been met through CSR grants, allowing the body to more effectively expand blind cricket internationally particularly by hosting tournaments and facilitating participation in overseas series. The move is seen as a significant step towards strengthening the global footprint of blind cricket.

To further accelerate progress, the BCCI has committed dedicated support to both the men’s and women’s national teams, including:
* Coverage of international travel and accommodation for two overseas tournaments per year for each team.
* Provision of accommodation for home and visiting teams during bilateral series staged in India.
* Access to BCCI-supported stadiums and grounds for domestic and international fixtures, ensuring world-class facilities and professional playing standards.

The development follows a series of discussions spearheaded by International Cricket Council chairman Jay Shah, who engaged closely with CABI leadership including chairman Dr Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar and general secretary Shailender Yadav to ensure blind cricket receives sustained structural support moving forward.

Kivadasannavar said, “We are sincerely thankful to the BCCI and to Mr. Jay Shah for their collaboration and for valuing the journey of our cricketers. To have the support of the BCCI is a moment of great pride for all of us at CABI and a true ‘feather in the cap’ for our players. Together, we can ensure that blind cricket in India continues to grow and inspire many more.”
