NEW DELHI: The Committee of Administrators (CoA) has submitted the draft constitution of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, incorporating suggestions of the Justice RM Lodha Committee on reforms in the BCCI, to the Supreme Court on Monday.
The apex court, after taking on record the draft constitution, adjourned the matter for further hearing to November 29.
A point of critical note here is that the Bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, made it clear while adjourning the hearing that it would not entertain any further plea seeking to intervene in the ongoing proceedings, saying any such would be “cruelly” rejected.
The Bench, which had summoned BCCI office-bearers CK Khanna, Amitabh Choudhary and Anirudh Chaudhry, to be personally present for allegedly coming in the way of the preparation of the draft constitution, took note of their personal appearance and exempted them from appearing on November 29, the next date of hearing.
The Bench had on 21 September warned the trio “they will face serious consequence” if they failed to give “suggestions” within three weeks to the CoA for a draft constitution, with respect to the Lodha panel’s recommendations.
The court had earlier expressed displeasure that the directions given by it and its order had not been implemented. The Bench had directed the Committee of Administrators to prepare a draft constitution for the board that was in sync with its earlier judgement and order on the Lodha recommendations.
