NEW DELHI: As India is gearing up to host the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) is in touch with the world governing body with regard to the coronavirus pandemic.
The ISSF World Cup is scheduled to be held in the national capital from March 15 to 26. As of now, the tournament is scheduled to take place as planned.
No ranking points at the World Cup in New Delhi
The ISSF declared Wednesday that the World Cup in New Delhi would carry no ranking points for the participants.
A statement issued by the ISSF reads: “Due to local restrictions relating to the COVID-19 virus introduced by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India, the organizers of the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi cannot guarantee the participation of all the athletes who would like to enter those competitions.
“Therefore no ranking points can be earned at this World Cup. Still, it will be possible to achieve the MQS that can influence on athletes’ chances to get the desired Olympic Quota Places.”
Earlier on February 28, NRAI announced the withdrawal of its team from the ISSF World Cup (Shotgun), being held in Nicosia, Cyprus, from March 4 to 13.
“Due to unprecedented prevailing health conditions and keeping in mind of health of our shooters, it has been decided to withdraw our team from ISSF WC, Nicosia, Cyprus from 04-13 March 2020,” NRAI had said in a statement at the time.
