NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in New Delhi on Friday signed a unique ‘Twining Agreement’ with the government of Moscow for cooperation in various fields such as sport till 2021.
The agreement between India and Russia’s capital cities beginning from 1 November, will also include establishing regular contact between the two governments in terms of environment, culture, education, healthcare and e-governance amongst others.
“The agreement was signed by Minister of the Moscow City government and head of its international relations Sergey Cheremin and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia,” an official AAP post on Facebook read.
However, this isn’t the first instance that Delhi has got into a sister-city twining agreement. Between 2001 and 2002, the Congress state government had entered into a similar pact with Moscow and St. Petersburg in Russia, Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia, Fukuoka in Japan and London in England.
The development has come a week after the Australian state of Victoria kicked off its ‘India Strategy’ plan in the city, which is an exclusive sports, culture and entertainment partnership.
