Dell, McLaren extend innovation partnership

DELL TECHNOLOGIES and McLaren Racing have extended their partnership, with Dell’s AI infrastructure and PCs set to enhance McLaren’s competitive edge in Formula 1.

As McLaren’s official innovation partner, Dell will continue to support the team’s operations, enabling it to harness technology for car development and on-track performance at the highest level of the sport.

Through the collaboration, McLaren gains access to AI infrastructure across every stage of its performance cycle from design and manufacturing to race-day operations helping the team push the boundaries of what is possible on and off the circuit.

The partnership, which began in February 2018, has evolved into a wide-ranging technology integration. Dell’s solutions and services are now embedded across McLaren’s workflows, from design and engineering to trackside performance and real-time decision-making, reshaping how the team delivers in-season upgrades.

Using the Dell AI Factory, including Dell PowerEdge servers and AI solutions, McLaren can process around 1.5 terabytes of data per race weekend. This enables faster simulations, more effective digital twins and sharper strategy planning across a range of race scenarios. The system also helps detect subtle hydraulic changes and respond to track conditions in real time, according to the media release.

To support these data-heavy operations, McLaren relies on storage platforms such as Dell PowerStore and Dell PowerScale, which allow the team to scale infrastructure on demand for tasks like data-intensive modelling and Computational Fluid Dynamics.

Dell PCs also support McLaren’s global workforce, with team members at the track, in the factory and on the road using them to collaborate and access critical data in real time. Meanwhile, Alienware systems power the McLaren F1 Sim Racing Team, strengthening the organisation’s presence in competitive gaming.

McLaren Racing chief executive officer Zak Brown said, “Our work with Dell Technologies has become a natural part of how we operate as a Formula 1 team. Their support strengthens the way we work across the organization, helping us stay agile and competitive in a sport where every detail matters. Extending this relationship reflects the confidence we have in what we can achieve together.”

Dell Technologies chief marketing officer Gerri Tunnell added, “The relationship between Dell Technologies and McLaren Racing showcases what’s possible when two organizations are dedicated to pushing boundaries. Dell’s solutions are a catalyst for human progress. With McLaren, we’re demonstrating how the combination of powerful technology and human ingenuity can deliver real competitive advantages in high-stakes environments – an approach that inspires innovation across industries worldwide.”
