Forbes ranks Mukesh Ambani 2nd on Sports Team Owners 2020 list

MUMBAI: Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani is the world’s second richest sports team owner after former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who owns the Los Angeles Clippers, Forbes, which released its “World’s Richest Sports Team Owners 2020” list, has declared. 

Ambani topped the list last year. 

It needs noting that when the 2020 list was compiled, Ambani’s net worth stood at $36.8 billion. However, since then his net worth has gone up to $52.5 billion. Ballmer’s net worth at the time of list compilation was $52.7 billion. Since then it has surged to $65.4 billion, according to Forbes real-time net worth data.

Ambani owns Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians. He bought the team for $111.9 million in 2008 through an RIL subsidiary.

There are 60 billionaire controlling owners of teams in major sports leagues around the world who own a total of 80 teams and are collectively worth $379 billion.
