BENGALURU: Mech Mocha Game Studios, the city-based mobile gaming company, has confirmed a new strategic partnership with US-based Agora.io, a video and live broadcasting platform, Inc42 reports.
As part of the agreement, Agora.io’s proprietary platform will help create live, in-game voice chat for Mech Mocha’s Hello Ludo game. Launched in October 2018, Hello Ludo is a hit amongst regional Indian users, with more than 25 minutes spent per daily active user (DAU) and 60 million minutes of real-time voice chats last quarter.
This is the American platform’s first business venture in India and is planning to build a local team with the help of it to expand operations.
“Not only does Agora.io consistently deliver high-quality communications for our users despite the challenges of India’s network connectivity, but they also have a dedicated local team, Mech Mocha co-founder and CEO Arpita Kapoor told Inc42.
In November 2018, Tech Circle reported that Mech Mocha had raised up to $10 million (Rs 710 million) from Korean and Japanese investors, as part of its ongoing Series B funding round.
While in April last year, the company raised $5 million (Rs 320 million) in a Series A round led by Accel Partners and Shunwei Capital.
Prior to that, in 2015, it had raised $1 million from Blume Ventures and Flipkart. The company was founded in 2014 by Arpita Kapoor and Mohit Rangaraju.
Mech Mocha’s creation, the Chota Bheem mobile game was one of the most free-of-cost downloaded games on the Google Play App in early 2016 alongside the likes of Temple Run and Candy Crush.
On the other hand, Agora.io raised $70 million in a Series C round of funding from Coatue Management, SIG, Morningside and Shunwei Capital in November 2018 as well.
