Gavaskar keeps promise; joins Jemimah for jam session

JEMIMAH RODRIGUES’ memorable innings against Australia in the 2025 Women’s World Cup semi-final, which powered India’s successful chase and sent the hosts into the final on home soil, was one of the defining moments of the tournament. In the aftermath of that knock, Sunil Gavaskar made a light-hearted promise to the music-loving batter; if India went on to lift the trophy, he would join her for a sing-along.

After India’s triumph in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, Gavaskar duly kept his word. He joined Rodrigues for a lively jam session and presented her with a unique ‘Bat-ar’; a custom-made bat-guitar designed by Nike that blends her twin passions for cricket and music.

The moment, shared on Rodrigues’ Instagram, captured the joyful spirit of the occasion and celebrated her recent success. Posting about the experience, she wrote, “Guitar ❌ Bat-ar ✅ Sunil sir kept his promise and we ended up jamming with the coolest Bat-ar ever!! 🎸🏏 This was a special one 🥹🎶🏏”

The Bat-ar was handcrafted by artist Nishant Fogaat and conceptualised by Nike as a tribute to Rodrigues not only for her performances on the field, but also for her personality and creativity beyond the game; a nod to the interests and individuality that define her both as an athlete and as a person.
