GURUGRAM: The Tau Devi Lal Stadium witnessed a joyful and special ceremony on Thursday as Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) felicitated the gold medal-winning Indian women’s blind cricket team, who won laurels for the nation in the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games 2023 in Birmingham.
Indian women’s blind cricket team on Saturday defeated Australia by 9 wickets, winning everyone’s hearts with their spectacular show in the World Games.
The women’s cricket team along with the officials of the Cricket Association for Blind in India (CABI) were given a warm welcome in Gurugram and the players were felicitated for their remarkable achievement by GMDA sports advisor Sunil Bhardwaj.
Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) Joint chief executive officer Ms Belina said, ” We are not only proud of our women’s blind cricket team but we also take inspiration from them. Challenges are a part of life but we can learn from our team that challenges can be overcome if we want to do something in life. The team needs our support so that the side can be further groomed.”
“I also want to congratulate the officials of the Cricket Association for Blind in India (CABI). who have them the platform to showcase their skills,” she added.
CABI chairman Dr Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar thanked the dignitaries present at the ceremony for the warm welcome given to the women’s blind cricket team.
“On behalf of Samarthanam and the Cricket Association for Blind in India (CABI) and especially on behalf of the winning team, I would like to extend big thanks to the authorities for the felicitation ceremony. I’m sure this will motivate the girls to perform well in future tournaments,” Dr Kivadasannavar said.
Moreover, for their tremendous performance, the Delhi High Court Bar Association has announced a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh for the gold medal-winning women’s blind cricket team.
