Haryana govt postpones Sunday’s Gurugram Marathon

NEW DELHI : The Haryana government has postponed the Gurugram Marathon 2020 in the wake of novel coronavirus cases rapidly spreading in the Delhi-NCR region.

OP Singh, the ADGP rank officer and advisor to the chief minister, confirmed the postponement to IANS.

“We have taken decision in public interest as large gatherings can spread this disease. The next date of the marathon will be announced after the scare gets over,” Singh said.

According to the official, over 85,000 residents from across Delhi-NCR had registered for this event scheduled for March 8.

SportzPower’s take on the numbers claim: Now that race has been postponed / cancelled, one will not know, but they can almost certainly be dismissed as more big talk than fact. Unless potential spectator count is added to the overall count that is.

For the record, the Haryana government was organising the event in Gurugram’s Leisure Valley ground in Sector 29.
