HCL ITF W15 Gurugram set to begin on 23 Feb

HCL GROUP has announced the launch of the HCL ITF W15 Tennis Tournament, scheduled to take place from 23 February to 1 March at The Tennis Project in Gurugram. The event will feature 60 players competing for valuable world ranking points awarded by the Women’s Tennis Association, along with a total prize purse of USD 15,000.

Positioned as a key platform for rising Indian and international players, the tournament boasts a competitive line-up. Thailand’s Anchisa Chanta (WTA No. 440) headlines the draw as the top seed, while India’s Zeel Desai (WTA No. 639) leads the home contingent as the fifth seed. Five Indian players have secured direct entry into the singles main draw, with four additional wild cards awarded. In doubles, three Indian pairs have gained entry into the main draw, offering domestic talent a significant opportunity to boost their global rankings on home soil.

The tournament is spearheaded by Vishal Uppal, captain of India’s Billie Jean King Cup team and one of the country’s most respected tennis mentors, known for his longstanding contribution to player development.

The HCL ITF W15 forms part of the ITF Women’s World Tennis Tour, a global pathway designed to help players earn WTA ranking points and progress through the professional ranks. The initiative reflects HCL’s broader vision of raising the standard of women’s tennis in India while providing greater international exposure for Indian athletes.

HCL Group AVP & head, brand and strategy Rajat Chandolia said, “At HCL, we have always believed that sports is a powerful catalyst for transformation. Our renewed focus on tennis with this international-level tournament reflects our long-standing commitment to nurturing Indian sporting talent. By hosting the HCL SNF ITF W15 tournament, we aim to provide Indian athletes with access to world-ranking opportunities and international exposure, while reducing the financial challenges associated with overseas travel. This initiative aligns with our broader vision of supporting Indian players on the global stage.”

Uppal said, “It is an honour to partner with HCL, an organisation that continues to play a pivotal role in advancing sports development in India. The HCL ITF W15 tournament represents a critical stepping stone for women players. Creating structured competitive opportunities within India is essential to bridging the gap between emerging potential and international performance. I am grateful and thrilled that HCL is starting to support women’s tennis in India. Such a prestigious organisation’s support is vital for the growth of our players and augurs well for Indian tennis.”
