Hockey World Cup: Bhubaneswar to be fully wi-fi connected

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha capital is preparing furiously for the Men’s Hockey World Cup later this year. As a key part of the plan, the entire city will be under high speed Wi-Fi network coverage ahead of the tournament’s kick-off.

State chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi gave the go-ahead for a proposal on a complete makeover of the city on Thursday.

The Wi-Fi service will be provided in all priority corridors with 75 locations and 300 access points before the marquee event, Odisha Sun Times reports.

As is the case in many Indian airports, people will be able to avail of free internet for the first 30 minutes, after which they will be charged for the service.
Padhi is focussed on ensuring the completion of infrastructure development and beautification works in the city on schedule. He has created deadlines for each work and directed the concerned departments to complete the projects on time.

Besides, the secretary also confirmed the addition of 50 standard AC and non-AC buses under the City Bus Modernization plan and renovation of bus depots. 

As per the decision at the high level state secretariat meeting, additional road side urinals and public toilets will be set up in Bhubaneswar ahead of the hockey event.

To have a sporting feel in the city, around 3,500 bicycles will be available the commuters through this project, the daily quotes state government sources as having revealed. It will be a fully automated system with smart card provisions. 

Events such as the heritage walk, Patha Utsav, Music Park, storytelling, folk-art, film festival and food bazaar to give a glimpse to tourists about Odisha’s cultural beauty. 

The Men’s Hockey World Cup is scheduled from November 28 to December 16.
