NEW YORK: Thursday was a landmark day for cricket in the USA as the country’s governing body in the sport, USA Cricket, now has three independent directors.
This is expected to give cricket a great chance to grow the game in the country apart from the USA growing its own cricketing talent and stature.
The names approved by the 7-member BoD are –
Catherine Carlson, senior vice president Corporate Partnerships and Premium Activation of the NBA franchise Orlando Magic. Carlson has been appointed till 2021.
Paraag Marathe, president of 49ers Enterprises and executive vice president of Football Operations in NFL’s San Francisco 49ers. Marathe has been appointed till 2020.
Rohan Sajdeh, senior partner and managing director, Boston Consulting Group. Sajdeh has been appointed till 2019.
The elected representatives of the board are Avinash Gaje (individual director), Venu Pisike (individual director), Suraj Viswanathan (individual director), Nadia T Gruny (cricketer), Usman Shuja (cricketer), Ajith Bhaskar (club director) and Atul Rai (league director).
The first chair of the board will be elected at the inaugural board meeting next month and will be announced shortly thereafter. With this step completed, USA Cricket will seek official ICC recognition through membership.
ICC chief executive David Richardson welcomed the latest development as a major milestone not only for cricket in the United States, but also the game globally.
“USA Cricket now has a governance structure and a high calibre board that we believe positions the organization well to achieve its enormous potential. A successful US cricket administration is great for world cricket and we are delighted with the quality of board candidates who have been selected from an incredibly impressive field and we think the global game will benefit from their expertise,” Richardson said.
