THE ASIAN CRICKET COUNCIL (ACC) alongside the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finally announced the Asia Cup schedule. The Asia Cup 2023 will be the 16th edition of the continental competition.
Asia Cup 2023 will begin with the clash between Pakistan National Cricket Team and Nepal National Cricket Team in Multan and it will be followed by the match between Sri Lanka National Cricket Team and Bangladesh National Cricket Team in Kandy.
The first major clash of the tournament will be played between India and Pakistan in Kandy on September 2. While the next three group stage games are set to be played between Bangladesh and Afghanistan on September 3, India and Nepal on September 4 and the final group stage game will see the battle between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan
on September 5.
India and Pakistan will meet each other in a Super 4 fixture on September 10, provided Nepal don’t cause any major upset. Meanwhile, the summit clash is set to be played on September 17 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Asia Cup 2023 is set to be played in the One Day International (ODI) format this time around as it will help the teams to prepare for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be hosted by India.
A total of six teams will feature in the marquee tournament, which consists of 13 matches. India, Pakistan, and Nepal form Group A while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are placed in Group B.
The teams finishing in the top two spots from both groups will enter the Super 4 stage. Further, the teams finishing in the top two spots in the Super 4 stage will make it to the final.
The tournament is set to be played in a hybrid model and it will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Asia Cup 2023 will become the first-ever Asia Cup competition to be co-hosted by multiple countries.
