MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday made available for purchase the Indian Premier League Media Rights ITT (2018-2022). Both television and digital media rights to the league are up for grabs.
The last date for purchasing bid documents is 24 August. Bids will be opened on 28 August and the result will be announced the same day, the BCCI has confirmed.
Companies that have already purchased the tender documents of the IPL Media Rights, which was earlier scheduled to be held on October 25, 2016, are being provided the tender documents of the present IPL media rights tender without any additional cost/charges.
The IPL governing council, at its meeting held on July 11, had reconfirmed that the existing BCCI tender process is the best approach, both in terms of absolute transparency and a free and fair price discovery, for the IPL media rights.
Among the companies which had picked up bid documents in the earlier round, notable ones include Star India Pvt Ltd, Sony Pictures Networks India Pvt Ltd, Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd’s digital media arm Times Internet Ltd, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd, WPP Group’s media buying agency GroupM, online marketplace Amazon India and social media behemoths Facebook and Twitter.
The ITT being rolled out on Friday invites bids for subcontinent television rights package, subcontinent digital rights package and the Rest of the World (ROW) media rights package.
The new ITT – which calls for separate bids for overseas rights, TV and digital – has been segregated into five territories instead of six mentioned in the previous ITT. The sub-Saharan market that had been opened up previously as a separate territory will now be clubbed along with the global rights.
